A Sold-Out Weekend of Neurofunctional Learning at RCC

Published November 24, 2025

This past weekend, the Royal Canadian College of Massage Therapy had the honour of hosting a completely sold-out, two-day Neurofunctional Continuing Education workshop led by Dr. Jay Sandweiss, an internationally respected osteopathic physician and educator with over 45 years of clinical and teaching experience.

Practitioners travelled from Belgium, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Vancouver, and across Ontario to take part in the training - creating an energized, collaborative learning environment filled with curiosity, generosity, and clinical curiosity.

About the Workshop

Dr. Sandweiss guided participants through a hands-on approach integrating osteopathic manipulation with applied kinesiology muscle testing - providing practical, clinically relevant tools that attendees can implement immediately.

Through structured assessment frameworks, palpation strategies, and targeted manual interventions, participants explored treatment approaches for:

  • Low back and pelvic dysfunctions
  • The spine and rib cage
  • TMJ-related conditions
  • Upper and lower extremity presentations
  • Complex or chronic neuromusculoskeletal patterns

The focus was on improved diagnostic confidence, treatment precision, and enhanced patient outcomes - all within a supportive, feedback-rich learning environment.

Collaboration in Manual Medicine

This event was developed and steered by Dr. Alejandro Elorriaga Claraco, director of the McMaster Neurofunctional Acupuncture Program, whose vision continues to expand access to high-quality, interdisciplinary continuing education in neurofunctional medicine.

We are grateful to Dr. Elorriaga Claraco and McMaster Neurofunctional for the collaboration — and for trusting RCC as the host site for this educational experience.

Why This Matters for RCC

While RCC is proudly a Ministry-approved Registered Massage Therapy college, we are also committed to being a lifelong learning destination — a space where manual therapists can return to:

  • deepen clinical thinking
  • refine hands-on skills
  • learn emerging treatment models
  • collaborate across disciplines
  • expand professional identity and career longevity

Our students, alumni, and extended healthcare community deserve access to world-class educators — and hosting Dr. Sandweiss reflects that commitment.

A Growing Hub for Advanced Manual Therapy Education

This workshop marks the launch of our RCC Neurofunctional Continuing Education series — with more specialized courses, guest instructors, and collaborative initiatives already underway.

Whether you’re an RMT, physiotherapist, chiropractor, naturopath, manual osteopath, MD, or another movement- or touch-based clinician — RCC aims to be a place where you can continue evolving in your career.
