RCC and Sutherland-Chan Meet for an Inaugural Softball Game

Published June 08, 2026

This past weekend, students, faculty, family members, and friends from RCC and Sutherland-Chan came together for what we hope will become an annual tradition: the inaugural RCC vs. Sutherland-Chan softball game.

The weather was perfect, the turnout was fantastic, and judging by the smiles (and occasional missed catches), everyone had a great time.

A special thank you goes to Sutherland-Chan, who arrived looking like seasoned veterans of inter-school softball. Their branded team shirts were impressive, they brought treatment tables, and even offered treatments to RCC players throughout the morning. They definitely set the bar high for next year's event.

One of the best parts of the day was seeing people connect outside of the classroom and clinic environment. Students from both schools had a chance to meet one another, faculty members caught up, and family and friends joined in to cheer from the sidelines. We also had plenty of first-time softball players who quickly learned that enthusiasm is often more important than skill.

The game itself could not have been much closer. Both teams were remarkably evenly matched, with the lead changing hands throughout the morning. When the dust settled, RCC came out on top by a single run, but it could just as easily have gone the other way. For an inaugural matchup, it was hard to script a better game.

More importantly, the day reinforced something we often tell our students: massage therapy is a relatively small profession, and many of the people on that field will cross paths again throughout their careers. Events like this provide an opportunity to build relationships, strengthen our professional community, and simply enjoy each other's company outside the classroom and clinic.

A big thank you to everyone who played, volunteered, organized, and supported the event. We are also grateful to Sutherland-Chan for embracing the idea and helping make the day such a success.

We're already looking forward to doing it again next year.

And for those wondering, RCC will be investing heavily in its uniform budget before the rematch.
